EU ETS Phase 4 – the final stretch : Event in Brussels on 22 September

Conferences

This meeting is convened by a group of institutions as supporting organizations, which include ERCST/ICTSD, I4CE, WWF, IETA, and Nomisma Energia. The EU ETS Phase 4 discussion is nearing the end, yet there are still significant differences in position between the various negotiating parties in the trilogue, and between members of the broader community of stakeholders.

This meeting focuses on two aspects of the Phase 4 discussion:

  • how do we address the large over-supply of allowances currently in the market and
  • how will carbon leakage protection evolve up to 2030.

It is hoped that this meeting will help catalyze a solution that will provide a good balance between these two elements.

Designing a robust carbon certification methodolgy for forest management in Europe

An Improved Forest Management (IFM) methodology has been initiated under the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming regulation (CRCF), alongside a near-finalised afforestation methodology. As concerns grow over the declining capacity of Europe’s forests, determining which forest management practices should be incentivised through carbon certification is far from straightforward.

Accelerating investment for an energy-independent and low-carbon future

Once again, soaring oil prices are squeezing households’ purchasing power, undermining industrial competitiveness, and exposing the EU’s structural dependence on imported fossil-fuel energy.
