Public budgets, taxation and carbon tax

To achieve the Paris Agreement objectives, entire state and local authority budgets must be redesigned and brought into line with the climate ambition: the climate issue can no longer solely be addressed through limited expenditure on renewable energies or energy efficiency.

For this reason, I4CE analyzes public budgets and evaluates measures that are beneficial to the climate, as well as those that are detrimental. Given that taxation is a powerful tool for economic transformation, I4CE puts a particular focus on scrutinizing carbon taxation policies from all over the world, and the conditions of their acceptability.
